Lately the local “comedy scene” in Calgary has been receiving a lot of attention from various media outlets. This is not just the usual promotion of shows (or individual comics) but more and more coverage on the local community as a whole. It’s really great to see that the hard work that so many people in the city are putting in to growing the industry is being recognized.

The most recent article was published on a new collaboration-based local news site, OpenFile, which allows anyone to “open a file” on a topic and potentially have a reporter assigned. Once the initial article is published online it remains open allowing for more discussion, comments, and other additions.

Brad Halasz submitted the original article, Calgary comics cultivate community, hilarity,” and you can read it online by clicking here. If you like, you can post your comments on the various shows that you’ve attended and start to grow the file. I’ll try to add some content in the comings days as well – maybe a photo or two.

Myself and several of the local up-and-coming comedians are featured in the write-up as well as every independent comedy room in the city. With attention like this, the local scene will continue to grow at a rate like we’ve never seen before and that will mean a lot more options for Calgary comedy crowds.
